Description:

The University of Alberta Hospital is seeking an Occupational Therapist to provide evidence-informed services to individuals, groups, and communities. The role involves supporting clients in achieving functional abilities and independence in various aspects of their lives. The OT will collaborate with clients, families, and healthcare teams to determine and implement rehabilitation plans.

The position requires engagement in interprofessional teams to enhance support and quality improvement efforts. The OT will also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides. The role involves working in the orthopedics/surgery - Rehabilitation and Allied Health program at the U of A Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide evidence-informed occupational therapy services
  • Collaborate with clients, families, and healthcare teams
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program
  • Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certification
  • Experience in acute care, including ADL, cognitive, and functional assessment
  • Strong communication, organization, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective teaching skills for students and professionals
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic medical records
  • One year of acute hospital experience in the last 3 years
  • Ability to transfer, carry, and lift patients and equipment over 50LB
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in hip fractures, amputees, post-operative care, and wound care
  • Experience in assigning, supervising, and evaluating tasks for therapy assistants
