Description:

North York General Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Oncology/Palliative/Medicine Unit. The ideal candidate will provide patient and family-driven care in a culturally sensitive manner, collaborating with a team of care providers to assess, educate, prevent, and restore patient health. The nurse will also ensure health and safety policies are followed for a healthy environment. This position supports the hospital's academic mandate through teaching, learning, research, and innovation.

Registered Nurses at North York General are expected to be organized, great communicators, decisive, safety-conscious, and committed to ongoing professional development. The nurse will work to the full scope of nursing practice, communicate effectively, prioritize patient needs, and demonstrate leadership in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities:

Demonstrate the ability to function to the full scope of nursing practice per the College of Nurse of Ontario

Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members

Think critically, set priorities, and organize work in response to patient needs

Commit to ongoing learning, professional development, and quality improvement

Assume a leadership/charge role in patient assessment and education

Qualifications:

Diploma or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing

Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

2-3 years acute care nursing experience

Recent Medical/Oncology/Palliative experience preferred

Certification in Oncology Nursing and/or CNA Oncology Nursing Certification preferred

Courses in Oncology/Palliative Care preferred

Health Assessment Course preferred

Bilingualism in French/English an asset

de Souza's Chemotherapy &amp; Biotherapy certification preferred; successful candidate's have the option to pursue Chemotherapy &amp; Biotherapy certification
