Unity Health Toronto is seeking a Laboratory Assistant/Technician to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing phlebotomy, collecting blood specimens, registering specimens, entering data, and preparing specimens for analysis. They will also be involved in basic quality control, inventory management, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform phlebotomy and collect capillary blood specimens
Register specimens and verify for entry into the LIS system
Enter data for bar code generation
Perform pre-analytical procedures
Sort, allocate, and deliver specimens to work stations
Prepare specimens for send-out to external clients
Participate in basic QC and inventory management
Respond to customer inquiries
Rotate through different work areas as required
Qualifications:
Successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant/Technician Program or equivalent experience
OSMT or CSMLS certification required
Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification an asset
Proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen handling
Ability to work independently and prioritize workload
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work cooperatively with team members
