Description:

The Occupational Therapist I - Stroke Early Supportive Discharge works within the Specialized Rehabilitation Outpatient Program under the direction of the Stroke Early Supportive Discharge Team Lead. This role involves providing team intake assessments, individual occupational therapy assessments, and interdisciplinary treatment. The Occupational Therapist collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to develop client-centered individualized treatment interventions and delegates treatment interventions to therapy assistants. The role also includes traveling to clients' homes in the community to provide assessment and treatment, reporting to the Manager of the Stroke Early Supportive Discharge Team.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will provide evidence-informed services focusing on occupational performance to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or communities. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. Engaging individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity, and leisure, is a key aspect of the role. Supporting clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations is essential.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program
  • Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)
  • Experience working in stroke rehabilitation of adults
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments with minimal direction
  • Must be able to work independently with adults in their homes and community
  • Perform physically demanding activities applying appropriate body mechanics
  • CPR certification required
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Membership with S.A.O.T. or C.A.O.T. preferred
  • Home Care experience beneficial
  • Experience in provision of adapted or specialized equipment considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Outlook and Connect Care an asset
