Basic Purpose: Reporting to the Department Manager and under the supervision of the Assistant Manager and/or Shift Supervisor, this position performs duties related to the analysis of client samples by ICP-ES, ICP-MS, AAS, Leco, and/or Gravimetric.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure fast and accurate processing of incoming samples in priority sequence.
  • Operate analytical instruments (ICP-ES, ICP-MS, AAS, Leco, and Gravimetric) to ensure fast and accurate processing of incoming samples in priority sequence.
  • Compile, review, and interpret analytical results.
  • Prepare and document preparation of reagents according to written procedure without deviation.
  • Perform and document quality checks at all stages of sample and material handling, halting production where necessary by Hold card and reporting problems/issues to the Supervisor.
  • Operate, maintain, and ensure calibration records are kept for equipment according to written instruction.
  • Responsible for overall maintenance of analytical instruments to generate the highest quality results, short term, and long term.
  • Comply with occupational health and safety legislation, BV Group Policies and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures, and ISO standards applicable.
  • Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Other duties or tasks as assigned from time to time.

  • Education, Certifications, and Experience (required)

  • College or technical diploma with relevant experience in a similar laboratory environment.
  • Previous experience in a mineral processing/analytical lab environment considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge and familiarity of WHMIS and GLP a bonus.
  • Physical and Environmental Conditions

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and crouching to manage sample vessels.
  • The technician may be exposed to chemicals requiring safe handling procedures and careful attention to ventilation and lab protocols.
  • Safely perform physically demanding tasks with repeated lifting.
  • Ability to handle weights of up to 40 lbs for prolonged periods.
