Operates production equipment to give a prescribed power to semi-finished lenses. Blocks, cuts, and polishes lenses. Deblocks lens from alloy, washes blocks and lenses.
Daily tasks and responsibilities:
Applies a protective adhesive tape to lenses.
Operates a computerized blocker by scanning job tray. Places a block for handling of the lenses on the production line. Aligns lenses according to drawing on screen; presses a lever to lock lenses in position; verifies position and presses button to inject the alloy in blocking ring.
Places adhesive pads on tool laps.
Disassembles block from lenses with deblocking ring; removes protective adhesive from lenses.
Washes lenses in soapy water; rinses lenses that are then dried with an electric dryer.
Puts blocks in metal basket; plunges basket in hot water for minutes to melt alloy mixture off blocks.
Melted alloy is poured back into blocking machines;
Washes and dries blocks.
Supplies blocking station on a regular basis with alloy and blocks.
Oversees automated equipment.
Non-Essential Functions and Tasks:
Assists in other areas of the laboratory as necessary.
Qualifications:
Education/Training: High school diploma or GED preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: None.
Experience: Experience in optical lab surfacing is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills: Manual dexterity required. Basic mathematical ability is required. Attention to detail is required.
