Description:

UHN is Canada's top hospital and a leading research institution affiliated with the University of Toronto. The hospital is looking to hire a Registered Nurse for the Endoscopy department at Toronto Western Hospital. The successful candidate will work full-time, Monday to Friday, and provide care to patients undergoing Endoscopy procedures.

The Registered Nurse will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing compassionate and competent care in line with professional standards and ethical guidelines. Responsibilities include pre, intra, and post-procedure care for patients, including those undergoing ERCP procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Applying nursing knowledge and critical decision-making skills

Ensuring practice aligns with professional standards and ethical frameworks

Participating in continuing education activities

Analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge for quality improvement

Performing cross-functional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

Completion of an approved nursing program (BScN preferred)

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II certification

Current ACLS certification

Coronary care 1 certificate preferred

Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

Previous nursing experience in Endoscopy required

Critical Care Experience preferred

Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills

Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team

Must be able to wear a lead apron and meet physical demands of the job

Ambulatory nursing experience an asset

Hours: 37.5 Hours per Week

Wage Range: $40.24  $57.68 per hour (start rate is nonnegotiable)

Shifts: Days  7.5 hour shifts  Monday to Friday, various start times  0700/0730/0800/0900

Status: Permanent FullTime

Position Summary As a member of the UHN and the Nursing Multidisciplinary Team, the REGISTERED NURSE practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession.

Duties

Applying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN
 Ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the UHN policy and procedure
 Demonstrating commitment to professional life long learning by participating in continuing education activities to meet the needs of the patient population served and the standards of the profession
 Performing reflective practice, analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge and modifying practice accordingly to improve the quality of nursing and patient care
 Performing crossfunctional and other responsibilities, as assigned and/or requested. Specifically, the nurse will be responsible for the pre, intra and post procedure care of patients undergoing Endoscopy procedures, including ERCP.

Qualifications

Completion of an approved nursing program (BScN preferred)
 Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification
 Current ACLS certification
 Coronary care 1 certificate preferred
 Current certificate of competency and a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
 Physical Health Assessment Course
 Previous nursing experience in Endoscopy required
 Critical Care Experience preferred
 Two years each of recent Medical and Surgical Nursing
 Experience with IV insertion, accessing vascular access lines
 Excellent independent decision making and problem solving skills
 Excellent organizational and time management skills
 Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
 Patient teaching skills
 Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
 Ability to work under pressure
 Must be able to wear a lead apron
 Ability to utilize information technology including experience with the online assessment tool
 Ability to meet the physical demands of the job
 Ambulatory nursing an asset
