FortisBC, the province's largest energy provider, is seeking a CP&C Technologist Apprentice to join their team. This full-time position offers a salary of $44.45 hourly and is affiliated with IBEW. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of a Journeyman Electrician and be responsible for installation, maintenance, and repairs on telecommunication, electrical apparatus, and equipment to ensure safe power system operation.

As part of a diverse team of over 2,800 employees, the CP&C Technologist Apprentice will enroll in a four-year electrician apprenticeship program and conduct tests on electrical equipment, cables, metering, and protective relaying facilities. They will also install communication and protective schemes, troubleshoot relaying schemes, provide technical expertise, and offer training to other employees.

Requirements for this position include a diploma in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Technology and a Class 5 Driver's License. Standby/on-call, residency, overtime, and out of town work requirements are also part of the role.

++Position Overview++

Under the guidance and direction of a Journeyman Electrician, Communication, Protection &amp; Control ("CP&amp;C") Technologist and his/her supervisor, the CP&amp;C Technologist Apprentice is responsible for the conduct of installation, maintenance and repairs on all telecommunication, electrical apparatus and equipment to ensure safe and efficient power system operation.

++Responsibilities++

Under the direction of a Journeyman Electrician or CP&amp;C Technologist, the CP&amp;C Technologist Apprentice will:

Enroll in a fouryear electrician apprenticeship program and become a journeyman electrician.
 Conduct emergent, investigative and scheduled tests on generation, transmission and electrical distribution system electrical apparatus and equipment, cables, metering, telecommunications and protective relaying facilities by coordinating line and equipment clearances.
 Carry out specialized tests required to analyze and assess inherent faults or conditions including power quality and radio or television frequency interference.
 Compile and record test data on telecommunications, relay characteristic tests and other associated electrical equipment.
 Install, test and commission a wide range of generation, substation and terminal station communication and protective schemes.
 Assess and organize those conditions that must be dealt with in the installation and maintenance of telecontrol equipment such as twoway radios, repeater sites, microwave radio, power line carrier, supervisory control, telemetering equipment, telecontrol standby power equipment and security systems.
 Read, interpret and troubleshoot complex protective relaying schemes and determine any corrective actions needed to solve problems.
 As required, undertake cost estimates, basic designs, job planning, scheduling, work documentation and reports.
 Liaise with other internal or external parties to provide technical expertise as required.
 Be willing and able to provide technical training in areas covered by these Duties &amp; Responsibilities to others in the workforce including employees in lesserpaid classifications.
 Be subject to standby and callouts, and required to establish residence as per the Company's Standby Policy.
 Perform duties normally carried out by employees in lesserpaid classifications.

Diploma in Electrical, Electronics or Instrumentation Technology.
 Class 5 Driver's License.
