Description:

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a Section Chief for Okotoks, Department of Rural Medicine. This 0.1 FTE position reports to the Corridor Lead, Rural - Calgary Corridor and is responsible for overseeing the function, leadership, and operation of the Section at the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre.

The Section Chief will provide expert guidance on medical services, assist in policy implementation, supervise clinical work, and support physician recruitment and retention. Collaboration with site medical leaders, physicians, and operational leaders is essential to advance strategic priorities and ensure safe patient care.

Responsibilities include representing the Section within AHS, fostering relationships with stakeholders, and promoting a culture of professionalism, accountability, quality, safety, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will also assist in conducting reviews of Section members in accordance with AHS Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules.

Additional duties may be assigned by the Corridor Lead, Rural - Calgary Corridor.

Required Qualifications:

  • Independent licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
  • Current member of the Alberta Health Services Medical Staff within the Department of Rural Medicine, Okotoks Section.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with strong conflict resolution, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively with physicians, operational leaders, and community stakeholders.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, physician engagement, and professional accountability.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).
  • CCFP-EM designation considered an asset.
  • Previous medical leadership experience in a rural medicine, urgent care, hospital, or community-based healthcare setting.
  • Experience supporting physician recruitment, retention, mentorship, and succession planning.
  • Experience leading teams, facilitating change, and advancing organizational priorities within a complex healthcare environment.
