Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) is seeking a Recreation Therapist - Mental Health to join their interdisciplinary healthcare team. The successful candidate will work with the mental health and addictions outpatient team to identify patient-centered goals and provide personalized leisure counseling. This role involves developing group and individualized programs, facilitating psycho-educational groups, and collaborating with the care team to achieve patient goals.
Primary Responsibilities
Facilitate and co-facilitate psycho-educational and experiential groups
Perform comprehensive assessments of patients to determine specific leisure needs
Develop patient-centered treatment goals based on assessment findings
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to facilitate the achievement of overall goals
Plan, implement, and facilitate appropriate leisure programs
Support patients and families to link with community resources on discharge
Document treatment and ongoing progress on patients
Demonstrate leadership skills while engaging with the care team
Professional accountability to TROs standards of practice
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years current Recreation Therapist experience in a hospital setting preferred
Degree in Recreation Therapy or Certificate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Membership eligibility in Therapeutic Recreation Ontario Registered (R/TRO) and/or Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA)
Excellent assessment, communication, time management, and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability in working with a variety of patient populations
Reliable individual with excellent attendance record
