The Clinical Extern position is a temporary role designed to provide Nursing students with hands-on experience in patient care within a collaborative team setting. Externs will work under the supervision of regulated health care providers and contribute to delivering patient-centered care.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist patients with activities of daily living as outlined in care plans
Aid in obtaining vital signs under supervision
Transport patients when nurse presence is not required
Provide non-pharmacological pain reduction support
Offer comfort and support to patients
Participate in Hourly Rounding
Assist with patient support during procedures
Respond to call bells and address patient concerns
Engage in additional delegated skills as approved
Qualifications
Enrolled in a BScN program or PN clinical program recognized by the College of Nurses of Ontario
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Effective time management and organizational abilities
Experience working with diverse patient populations in a hospital setting
Ability to follow hospital policies and procedures
Capable of working in a fast-paced environment
Physically able to lift, bend, push, and pull using proper techniques
Reliable with excellent attendance and willingness to work all shifts
