Glen Hill Strathaven is currently seeking Certified Activity Aides for their 158-bed Long Term Care facility. The successful candidates will be part of the transition to the new long-term care home, Glen Hill Gardens, in Bowmanville.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Activity Aide will provide recreation activities to residents based on their assessed needs. They will collaborate with other clinical care providers to enhance the residents' experience while upholding core values and ensuring resident safety.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides recreation and leisure activities according to policy and care plans

Contributes to care plans and activity calendars

Maintains accurate records and documentation

Demonstrates knowledge of care equipment

Follows corporate policies and procedures

Identifies therapeutic recreation goals and interventions

Commits to ongoing professional development

Ensures compliance with legislation and regulations

Qualifications:

Diploma or degree in recreation/leisure studies

2 years' experience in long term care preferred

Good communication skills

Ability to work in a team environment

Knowledge of programming for older adults with dementia

Willingness to work flexible hours

Basic computer skills

Fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Current police check required

Please note that this is a casual position with no guaranteed hours. Shifts are offered on an unscheduled, as-needed basis.

Join our team of dedicated professionals as we transition to our newest longterm care home in the Spring of 2026, Glen Hill Gardens, located at 285 Boswell Dr. in Bowmanville.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Activity aide will provide recreation activities to residents according to their assessed needs. The Activity Aide will work in collaboration with all other clinical care providers to optimize the residents' experience.

The Activity aide is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the core values and employee guiding principles, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides for recreation and leisure activities including outings in accordance with established policy, physician's orders, the resident plan of care and within the scope of practice;
 Contributes to and sustains a plan of care to meet residents' assessed need;
 Assist in planning for assigned resident area activity calendars in accordance with the care plan goals and preferences of the residents on each home area;
 Responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records of care delivered, documentation, program development, program delivery;
 Demonstrates a professional working knowledge of all equipment used in the delivery of care;
 Follows all corporate policies and procedures; contributes to the development of site specific recreation therapy policies as indicated;
 Ensures that thorough evaluation of assessments, intervention plans, program development and program delivery is consistently being completed to ensure the efficacy of recreation services;
 Identifies appropriate therapeutic recreation goals and interventions on the care plans of identified residents;
 Expectation of commitment to professional development to be demonstrated on an on going basis both personally and professionally in relation to therapeutic recreation and staying current with the trends in the industry;
 Seeks direction from the Program Manager when resident need exceeds experience or scope of practice.
 Maintains personal accountability for completion of monthly audits as assigned.
 Knows and interprets MOHLTC legislation, regulation and process;
 Contributes to the implementation of processes and systems to ensure compliance to all standards on an ongoing basis.

Qualifications:

Diploma or degree in recreation/leisure studies, therapeutic recreation from a recognized college or university;
 2 years' experience in a long term care setting preferred
 Good oral and written communication skills;
 Ability to follow direction and work in a team environment;
 Knowledge of programming needs for older adults diagnosed with dementia;
 Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends;
 Basic computer skills
 Must be fully vaccinated against COVID19, including 3rd booster, in accordance with our COVID19 Immunization Program
 Successful candidate will be required to have a current police check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Please note: This position is casual with no guaranteed or regularly scheduled hours. Shifts are offered on an unscheduled, callin/asneeded basis to support operational requirements.
