This job posting is for a research predominant academic tenure-track position within the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. The position is full-time with a term length of 5 years and offers a comprehensive benefits package. The role involves approximately 60% - 80% research and the remainder in other academic pursuits, including teaching and administration. The position is located at North Campus Edmonton and involves a mix of remote and in-person work.

The Chair will provide academic and research leadership by developing and sustaining an innovative, high-quality research program in primary care. Responsibilities include promoting collaborative research, working with primary care clinicians to identify knowledge gaps, and attracting outstanding residents, students, and faculty to build research capacity in primary care.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead an innovative and high-quality research program in primary care;
  • Promote collaborative research within the department of family medicine and across disciplines;
  • Work with primary care clinicians to identify gaps in knowledge that need to be addressed;
  • Attract outstanding residents, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research associates, and faculty members to the University of Alberta, to build capacity in primary care;
  • Acknowledge the Alberta Health Services Chair in Primary Care in any presentations, publications, public announcements, or appearances related to the Chair.
  • Qualifications:

  • MD, PharmD, RN, and/or a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent);
  • Productivity as a researcher in research relevant to primary care;
  • Record of attracting and supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows;
  • Experience leading clinical research, randomized trials, and systematic reviews;
  • Engagement with clinicians and health administrators to support research;
  • Graduate degree in biostatistics or related field;
  • Leadership in primary care relevant research.
