ACVS is seeking a qualified Animal Lab Specialist to assist with the development and delivery of the animal user training program within Western's research community. The role involves acting as the primary trainer and evaluator for animal-users, maintaining records, resources, and communications related to the training program, and ensuring alignment with regulatory and institutional policies.
The ideal candidate will have a 2-year Community College Diploma in Veterinary Technology, be a Registered Veterinary Technician with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians, and have CALAS Certification. Experience in a research setting as a veterinary technician and providing hands-on training in species-specific techniques on live research animals is required.
Key responsibilities include providing instruction and hands-on demonstrations, assessing trainee skill levels, conducting sample collection and technical procedures, administering anesthetics, and providing surgical assistance. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are essential.
