Description:

The Health Care Operations department of WorkSafeBC is seeking a Co-op Student to join the team and assist in processing accounts for health care expenses related to claims. This temporary eight-month opportunity starts in May 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in processing health care accounts for injured workers.

Determine the validity of health care charges.

Streamline workflow processes by gathering and testing data.

Prepare and send correspondence to claimants and related parties.

Identify and correct incorrectly billed accounts.

We're Looking For People Who Can:

Communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Work with limited supervision.

Your Background And Experience:

Enrolled in an undergraduate program.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Analytical skills are an asset.

Previous office experience preferred.

Some coding experience/interest is an asset.

Where you'll work At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.

On Day 1 in this role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.

During your first week you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program designed to equip you for success. You will be partnering and meeting with your manager to discuss your goals and align them with the team's vision. Additionally, you will learn how our department contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization's mandate. You will also work through the onboarding program alongside your supervisor for added guidance and support.

This role is ideal for an individual who is eager to step beyond their comfort zone. We are looking for someone with a detective mindset, strong motivation, and a passion for innovation. The right candidate will possess analytical and critical thinking skills, enabling them to propose ideas that enhance various processes and initiatives, as well as to explore new approaches to work within the department.

Assist in processing health care accounts for services and goods provided to injured workers in accordance with the Workers Compensation Act and WorkSafeBC policies.
 Determine the validity of health care related charges via validation queues.
 Streamline workflow processes by gathering data, testing and validating current practices.
 Prepare and send a variety of correspondence to claimants and other related parties when health care benefits are adjudicated.
 Assist in identifying and correcting accounts incorrectly billed; calculate and process credits on accounts incorrectly paid.

Your Background And Experience

Enrolled in an undergraduate program at a postsecondary institution
 Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office software suite (Excel, Word).
 Analytical skills are an asset.
 Previous coop or relevant work experience in an office environment preferred.
 Some lowlevel coding experience/interest is an asset
