We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and engaging Developmental Support Worker or Caregiver/Companion to support a young male client with autism who experiences social anxiety. The ideal candidate will help the client build confidence and enjoy social and recreational activities in the community.
Responsibilities:
Engage the client in enjoyable community outings and activities such as: Going to the movies, the mall, or the arcade
Grabbing a tea or coffee and chatting
Supporting participation in leisure and social activities
Provide gentle encouragement and emotional support to help reduce social anxiety
Promote independence, social skills, and a positive self-image through meaningful interactions
Maintain professionalism, respect, and confidentiality at all times
Qualifications:
Experience or education in Developmental Services, Personal Support Worker, Social Work, Psychology, nursing, or a related field preferred
Previous experience supporting individuals with autism or social anxiety
Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills
Reliable, patient, and compassionate
Ability to meet the client at Eaton Centre Downtown, 2-3 times a week, 1pm-5pm (preferably Tuesdays & Thursdays)
Current First Aid/CPR and Vulnerable Sector Check required
Fully vaccinated against Covid
