Covenant Health is looking for a dedicated physician leader to serve as Facility Medical Lead (FML) for the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Misericordia Community Hospital. This 0.25 FTE role involves shaping Emergency Medicine services, supporting physician engagement, and enhancing integration across various partners.

About the Role

The Facility Medical Lead will provide leadership for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Misericordia Community Hospital and act as a crucial liaison between Emergency Medicine physicians, Covenant Health leadership, and provincial partners. This role collaborates closely with other medical leaders and contributes to a high-performing Emergency department.

Key Responsibilities

Provide leadership to Emergency Medicine physicians, chair departmental meetings, and facilitate effective communication

Mentor and support emergency staff, promote engagement, professionalism, and team cohesion

Represent Emergency Medicine at key forums and ensure compliance with Covenant Health Medical Staff Bylaws

Partner with operational leaders to support patient flow, access, and service delivery priorities

Champion quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-informed emergency medicine practice

Support workforce planning, recruitment efforts, and successful integration of new physicians

Qualifications

Doctor of Medicine (MD) with eligibility for licensure in Alberta

Active member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)

Established clinical practice within Emergency Medicine

Demonstrated leadership experience in a complex healthcare environment

Strong communication, collaboration, and change management skills

Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and physician engagement

About the Role

The Facility Medical Lead provides leadership for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Misericordia Community Hospital and serves as a critical liaison between:

Emergency Medicine physicians and site operations
 Covenant Health leadership and clinical programs
 Provincial Emergency Medicine program leadership and system partners

This role works in close collaboration with the Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO), Urban Acute and Primary Care, and the Provincial Program Medical Lead (Emergency Medicine &amp; Critical Care), while supporting Section Leads and contributing to a cohesive and highperforming Emergency department.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Leadership

Provide leadership to Department of Emergency Medicine physicians, including chairing departmental meetings and enabling effective communication
 Mentor and support emergency staff, promoting engagement, professionalism, and team cohesion
 Represent Emergency Medicine at key forums, including Facility Medical Advisory Committee (FMAC), program meetings, and provincial/corridor discussions
 Ensure compliance with Covenant Health Medical Staff Bylaws and promote effective use of clinical information systems

Operations &amp; Clinical Service Delivery

Partner with operational leaders to support patient flow, access, emergency room efficiency, and service delivery priorities
 Support physician engagement in program planning and organizational initiatives, including accreditation and mission integration
 Act as a liaison between physicians and operational leadership to align clinical priorities and operational needs

Quality &amp; Patient Safety

Champion quality improvement, patient safety, and evidenceinformed emergency medicine practice
 Support physician participation in quality councils, morbidity and mortality reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
 Promote accurate documentation and the effective use of data to inform emergency care delivery

Physician Support &amp; Concerns

Support department members in navigating physician concerns processes
 Assist the CMO/DCMO with review and resolution of concerns as required
 Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous learning

Workforce Planning &amp; Recruitment

Collaborate with Medical Affairs and operational leaders to identify workforce needs within the Department of Emergency Medicine
 Support recruitment and retention efforts, including participation in or delegation to Search &amp; Selection Committees
 Facilitate onboarding and successful integration of new physicians into the department
