Unit 21 is a fast-paced, collaborative surgical unit specializing in orthopedic and urology care. As a Health Care Aide on this team, you will provide compassionate care to patients recovering from joint replacements, fracture repairs, urologic surgeries, and other complex procedures. Your role includes assisting with mobility, hygiene, nutrition, and emotional well-being to support patients throughout their hospital stay. We are seeking a motivated individual who anticipates patient needs and values teamwork in a surgical environment.

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to provide personal assistance to patients in accordance with care plans and facility policies. Your responsibilities include supporting activities of daily living, assisting with routine care, observing and reporting on patient well-being, and maintaining a safe environment. Effective communication with patients and health professionals is essential.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory.

Nursing students enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program with a minimum of 100 hours of practicum will be considered.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certification is required.

Demonstrated effective communication, interpersonal, and observational skills.

Physical capability to perform job duties, including lifting and supporting patients.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent surgical or acute care experience is preferred.

Experience with orthopedic or urology post-op care is an asset.

Training or interest in rehab, mobility, or older adult care is valued.

Adaptability, motivation, and initiative in meeting patient needs are desired.
