Qualifications:

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory

Graduate from a recognized health care aide program

BCLS - HCP level certification

One year previous primary arthroplasty experience

Experience with supply monitoring and ordering

Familiarity with caring for bariatric patients with mobility restrictions

Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Basic computer skills

PCU 410 is a 28bed unit providing care to primary hip, knee &amp; shoulder arthroplasty patients as well as general orthopedic patients. Patients are mostly received from the operating room, but may also come from the emergency department, and directly from medical clinics. We have collaborative care nursing on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and health care aides working collaboratively. HCAs are expected to provide direct care as directed by the nurses which will include working to full scope of practice within current hospital policy. HCAs will be involved in mobilizing our patients within hours after their return from surgery as directed by the RNs and LPNs.Description: As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require shortterm assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing.
