The Health Care Aid works in the Cardiac Care Unit under the supervision of regulated Health Care Providers to deliver quality, patient-centered care. They assist patients with daily living activities, support services, and routine care to meet hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and safety needs. The Health Care Aide collaborates with patients, families, and caregivers in various care settings to maintain a safe environment and effective communication with health professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide personal assistance to patients based on care plans and facility policies
Assist nurses with routine care and organized activities
Observe and report on patient's mood, health, and wellbeing
Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors
Communicate effectively with patients and health professionals
Required Qualifications:
Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire
Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
Confirmation letter from the Directory as proof of enrollment
Nursing students enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program with minimum 100 hours of practicum
Compliance with qualification requirements
Additional Required Qualifications:
Certificate in Health Care Aide Course from a recognized program
Minimum 2 years' experience in an acute medical setting, preferably in a cardiac setting
Current BCLS-HCP certification from Heart and Stroke Foundation
Experience with Connect Care documentation and access with Millennium Scheduler
Willingness to work within a Collaborative Practice Model
Demonstrated promotion of workplace safety and adherence to safety policies
Excellent critical thinking, organization, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work under pressure and handle competing priorities
Strong communication skills within a multi-professional team environment
