The Health Care Aide - Medicine Float Pool at the Royal Alexandra Hospital Medicine Relief Team provides relief staff to 13 medicine units, offering care for various patients. This role involves working within a dynamic and fast-paced adult acute care program dedicated to patient and family-centered care. As part of an interdisciplinary team, the Health Care Aide is responsible for providing patient care services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse. Duties include assisting with patient hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs, as well as maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide personal assistance and support services to patients in accordance with care plans and facility policies

Assist with organized activities, observe patient well-being, and report on mood and health

Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors

Qualifications:

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory

Confirmation letter from the Directory as proof of enrolment

Nursing students enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program with 100 hours of practicum

Compliance and proof of qualification required

Additional qualifications as required

Preference given to internal RAH Medicine Floats

Care is delivered by an interdisciplinary collaborative care team in accordance with AHS Values, hospital policies and nursing care standards. As a member of the collaborative, interdisciplinary team, the Health Care Aide  Medicine Float Pool is responsible for providing patient care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The Health Care Aide within the medicine program participate in the delivery of quality patient care by providing services necessary for the physical and emotional wellbeing and comfort of the patient. The Health Care Aide duties will include, but are not limited to, assisting in the delivery of quality patient care to meet patient's hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs by obtaining and documenting height and weight, assisting with ADLs, lifting, transferring and mobilizing patients, transporting patients, equipment and specimens to other areas of the hospital, as well as maintaining the inventory of supplies. You will also assist in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, families, staff and visitors by gathering and cleaning equipment and maintaining an environment free of obstacles and clutter. Physical demands of the job involve periods of physical activity such as standing, bending, twisting, walking, and lifting weights up to 25 kg.Description: As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require shortterm assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures.
