Description:
The Health Care Aide in Neurosciences program plays a crucial role in providing quality patient care by assisting with various tasks to ensure the physical and emotional well-being of patients. This includes bathing, feeding, transferring, lifting, and portering patients, as well as delivering specimens, ordering supplies, and maintaining unit equipment. The position requires physical stamina for standing, walking, and lifting, with supervision from the Unit Manager and direction from the Charge Nurse and team members.
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide personal assistance and support services to patients in accordance with care plans and facility policies. Your responsibilities will involve assisting with daily activities, supporting patient hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety, as well as observing and reporting on patient well-being. You will work under the supervision of a regulated health professional to maintain a safe environment and facilitate communication with patients and healthcare professionals.
Until proof of HCA certification is provided, new hires will be paid at the uncertified pay grade. The position is classified as Health Care Aide under AUPE AUX union, located in Unit 4G4, Neurosciences at U of A Hospital. The role requires an FTE of 0.80 with shifts including days, evenings, and weekends.
