Description:

Health Care Aides function as members of the multi-disciplinary care team by providing healthcare services for patients. The incumbent participates in the delivery of quality patient care by performing services necessary for the physical and emotional well-being and comfort of the patient. Duties include assisting patients with activities of daily living, personal care, lifting and transferring, and assisting with health care tasks/procedures as necessary.

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will assist nurses with routine care, observe and report on patients' mood and well-being, and maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. PLEASE NOTE: Until proof of HCA certification is provided, the pay grade will be at the uncertified level.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta as a Health Care Aide

Proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of a recognized Health Care Aide Course (or equivalent)

Medical Terminology course

Current BCLS-HCP taken within the last 12 months from HSFC

Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job

Preferred Qualifications:

Related experience in Medicine preferred

You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a recognized Health Care Aide Course (or equivalent) is required. Medical Terminology course is required. Current BCLSHCP taken within the last 12 months is required issued from Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) only. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job. Duties that involve periods of physical activity such as standing, bending, walking and lifting.
