The Health Care Aide provides personal care and support to clients in a community setting. Work is assigned according to an established plan of care, in collaboration with the client, family and members of the interdisciplinary team. The Health Care Aide is supervised by a regulated health professional and may perform assigned Restricted Activities under specific circumstances. Documentation of pertinent information and care provision is required, as is participation in relevant in-service education.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients
Assist nurses with routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs
Observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing
Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors
Support effective communication with patients and health care professionals
Required Qualifications:
Active or eligible for registration with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta as a Health Care Aide
Completion of a Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire
BLS-HCP and/or first aid training
Valid full driver's license
Ability to meet physical demands of the job
Excellent attendance record and reliability
Personal suitability demonstrated through employment references
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in the health care field
Medication Assistance training
Familiarity with Rover, PC, Internet, and Microsoft applications
