Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be a graduate of an educational program that uses the Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides or have met the criteria outlined in the Substantially Equivalent Competency Guidelines. Active registration with CLHA. Basic Cardiac Life Support  Health Care Provider (BCLSHCP) certification is required. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction when required. Effective verbal and written English communication skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with patients/clients, families, visitors, and team members. Medication Assistance Certificate or previous experience providing medication assistance. Previous experience in the health care field and working with older adults or chronically ill individuals is preferred. Welldeveloped time management and organizational skills. This position requires regular travel of up to 100 kilometers per day to provide care and support to clients in their homes and throughout rural communities. A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle in good working condition are mandatory requirements for this role. The position is physically demanding and involves routine lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, and pulling as part of daily client care activities. Responsibilities may include assisting clients with transfers and passive exercises, which can require lifting up to 30 pounds while providing safe, effective, and compassionate care.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous community or Home Care experience. Medication assistance experience. Ability to work independently in a community setting. Proficiency with iPhone technology, computers, and email applications.
