Job Responsibilities:

Develop and/or revise curriculum in consultation with the Program Coordinator

Update course structure, teaching methods, and evaluation tools as needed

Facilitate achievement of course learning outcomes and educational goals

Maintain current knowledge of assigned subject areas

Monitor student performance and provide feedback

Administer course evaluations and submit reports on time

Set and model professional behavior and appearance

Establish effective relationships with administrators, peers, and students

Participate in scheduled meetings and college-related activities

Qualifications:

Current registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives

Minimum two years of Canadian nursing experience

Knowledge of the Canadian health care system and interdisciplinary team roles

Experience working with older adults with complex health needs

Teaching qualifications or experience in adult education

Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Job Summary:
Using the Health Care Assistant Program BC Curriculum guidelines, the instructor reviews existing standards and selects and applies resources to develop curriculum materials for the HCA courses in consultation with the Program Coordinator.

Job Description:

This position is an instructional position in the role as a subject matter expert in the development of our Health Care Assistant program currently in development. Future instructional opportunities will be available in the the approved program.

Develops and/or revises curriculum in consultation with the Program Coordinator as required
 Updates the course structure, teaching methods and evaluation tools as necessary
 Selects and applies appropriate resources to enhance curriculum delivery
 Delivers the curriculum in accordance with the course outline
 Maintains a comprehensive and current knowledge of assigned subject areas
 Facilitates the achievement of course learning outcomes and the educational goals of the students
 Creates an environment conducive to purposeful learning and positive interaction
 Monitors student performance and provides constructive feedback to the students throughout the duration of the learning process
 Records student attendance
 Ensures that all furniture and equipment in a classroom is returned to its original position at the end of class
 Administers the Course Evaluation Form by the students according to stated procedures
 Submits reports and records, including final grade breakdown, timesheets and attendance registers on time and in accordance with prescribed procedures
 Input final grades into Langara's student management system within 10 business days of the final class/exam.
 Sets and models a high standard of professional behaviour and appropriate appearance
 Adheres to the Policies and Procedures of Langara College
 Establishes and maintains effective relationships with administrators, peers, support staff, students and the community at large
 Participates in scheduled meetings and appropriate collegerelated activities as requested by the Program Coordinator.

Education &amp; Experience

MANDATORY: Current, unrestricted full registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as an LPN, RN, or RPN

Minimum two years of fulltime Canadian nursing experience (1 year = 1,400 hours)
 Knowledge of the Canadian health care system and interdisciplinary team roles
 Experience working with older adults with complex health needs
 Experience or orientation in home support, assisted living, or multilevel/complex care settings
 Completion of Indigenous cultural safety and humility training (e.g., San'yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training or equivalent)
 Completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC course (LearningHub)

Teaching Qualifications. Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners, evidenced by one of the following:

Completion of a Provincial Instructor Diploma (PID) or equivalent, or
 Previous teaching experience (health / human services) with satisfactory references and positive teaching or student evaluations
 Demonstrated ability to develop content aligned to the learning outcomes of HCA courses
 Specialized training or exposure to program area for which the position is responsible.
 Minimum 2 years teaching experience in a similar course or related subject in a postsecondary institution.
 Experience in developing course materials/curriculum
 Sound knowledge of contemporary adult education principles.

 Ability to develop and implement new strategies, policies and procedures.
 Ability to interpret and apply College, government, agency, and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
 Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problemsolving skills.

 Ability to use tact and discretion to deal with or settle complex requests or complaints.
 Ability to communicate effectively with people who have limited English language proficiency.
