Located in Central Zone, Nova Scotia Hospital, the MHA Central Intake Services department is seeking a temporary full-time Health Care Social Worker. Nova Scotia Health is dedicated to providing high-quality health services and is looking for professionals to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating intake for Mental Health and Addictions services, including risk assessment, clinical triage, counseling, and information sharing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize appropriate screening tools and triage methods
  • Provide brief supportive counseling and psychoeducation
  • Build working relationships and assist with problem-solving
  • Identify client needs and direct them to support services
  • Act as a liaison between community resources and MHA
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work
  • Registration with Nova Scotia College of Social Workers
  • Three years of related experience in Mental Health and Addictions
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health concerns
  • Knowledge of harm reduction strategies and stages of change theory
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and competency
  • Competencies in other languages, French preferred
  • Hours:

    Temporary, Full Time position; 75 Hours Bi Weekly

    Approximately 18 Months

    Dates are subject to change

    Hours may include some evenings and holidays until 8pm

    Compensation and Benefits:

    Healthcare Social Worker B$36.58 - $48.53 Hourly

    Healthcare Social Worker A (Developmental) $34.80 - $44.38 hourly

    Benefits package includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan for permanent long assignments

    Successful candidates may be eligible for benefits

    Preference given to bargaining unit employees for unionized positions
