Description:

As part of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) team, the Indigenous Support Worker plays a crucial role in providing life skills training, coaching, advocacy, and support services to clients with severe substance use and mental health concerns. This position also involves working closely with caregivers and families to ensure the well-being of clients. The successful candidate will report to the Coordinator and be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team.

Island Health is dedicated to reconciliation and cultural safety, striving to deliver excellent health care services to Indigenous communities. The ideal candidate will have a Diploma in Community Social Services and at least two years of relevant experience working with Indigenous communities. Knowledge of legislation such as the Mental Health Act and the Guardianship Act is essential, along with a strong understanding of Indigenous health issues and resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Community Social Services
  • Minimum two years of related experience
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and available programs
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous health issues and protocols
  • Current Level C Basic Life Saving Certificate
  • Valid Class 5 vehicle license
  • Preference given to candidates of First Nations, MΓ©tis, or Inuit heritage
