The University of British Columbia is seeking a Research Assistant/Technician 3 for a 20-month term position in the Kaigala Lab at the School of Biomedical Engineering. The position is part-time at 33.33% FTE (12.50 hours per week) with a salary range of $4,567.04 - $5,385.67 CAD Monthly. The successful candidate will work on molecular profiling of biological materials and standard analysis in the laboratory for Microtechnologies for Quantitative Biomedicine.

Job Summary:

The School of Biomedical Engineering at UBC focuses on research, education, and innovation in biomedical engineering. The lab for Microtechnologies for Quantitative Biomedicine develops bioanalytical tools and methods for biological systems. The Research Assistant/Technician 3 will work on routine tasks associated with molecular profiling, method implementation, and standard analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cell culture and maintenance
  • rtPCR execution and gene expression analysis
  • Functional biological characterization using immunostaining techniques
  • Image analysis pipelines using informatic pipelines
  • Create reports and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Maintenance of common lab tools and technologies
  • Organize and streamline lab operations
  • Training students on analytical tools
  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a relevant technical program or university degree
  • Minimum three years of related experience
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with laboratory techniques, cell culture, and microscopy
  • Attention to detail and accurate documentation
  • Organization skills for task management
  • Completion of UBC biological safety and chemical safety training courses
