This part-time position as Lab and Administrative Operations Supervisor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia involves overseeing laboratory safety, operations, compliance, and financial management. Responsibilities include developing safety procedures, coordinating training, managing daily lab operations and finances, providing equipment training, and resolving technical issues. The role also focuses on improving workflows, accounting processes, operational efficiency, and supporting overall laboratory and research activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Developing and writing safety procedures
Ensuring lab compliance with safety regulations
Coordinating lab safety training
Managing daily lab operations and finances
Developing operating procedures and workflow improvements
Providing equipment training
Supervising, scheduling, and training staff
Providing financial reports and improving accounting processes
Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations
Coordinating with auditors and vendors
Identifying opportunities for efficiencies in lab operations and procurement
Handling negotiations and coordination with vendors and research support staff
Carrying out any other related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
University degree in a relevant discipline or technical program
Minimum four years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Commitment to enhancing awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge and experience in coordinating lab safety and biosafety
Startup and industry experience
Experience with BSL 1 organisms, handling, shipment, and processing of fungi, filamentous fungi, and bacteria
Experience with processing and storage of animal and plant-derived waste
Experience handling synthetic biology labs and bioreactors
