This job opportunity is for a Language Learning and Acquisition Lab Assistant at the New Westminster/Coquitlam Campus. The salary range is $27.41 to $30.30 per hour, in accordance with the Collective Agreement. The successful candidate will engage students in English Language Learning and Acquisition (ELLA) courses, work closely with faculty to deliver lessons, lead field trips, and create a safe and engaging learning environment.

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, fluency in English and a target language, familiarity with computer-based language learning activities, and a good understanding of effective language acquisition principles. They should also be able to facilitate educational activities in group settings and provide tutoring in small group or one-on-one settings.

Key Responsibilities:

Engage students in oral/aural and/or reading/writing learning activities

Work with faculty to deliver lessons and lead field trips

Provide feedback on learning lab activities and track student progress

Create a safe and engaging learning environment

Qualifications:

Fluency in English and a target language

Familiarity with computer-based language learning activities

Understanding of effective language acquisition principles

Ability to facilitate educational activities in group settings and provide tutoring

This temporary, on-call position starts on February 23, 2026, at the New Westminster and Coquitlam campuses. The work schedule may include shifts between 8:30am and 8:00pm, Monday to Friday, with varying hours per day depending on assignments. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. WHAT IT TAKES

Excellent interpersonal and crosscultural communication skills, including written and/or verbal fluency in English and) the target language (such as, but not limited to, American Sign Language, Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish)
 Familiarity with computerbased language learning activities;
 Good working knowledge of the principles of effective language acquisition;
 A demonstrated ability to:

speak or sign the target language fluently;
 initiate and conduct conversations in English or the target language and encourage the participation of students;
 follow the course materials provided faculty members;
 facilitate educational activities in a large group setting;
 facilitate tutoring in small group or one on one settings;

Additional Information This temporary, oncall position is available starting February 23, 2026. The position is located at the New Westminster campus and at the Coquitlam campus. Travel between campuses may be required. Work shifts generally take place between 8:30am and 8:00pm, Monday to Friday per the lab schedules set each semester. Scheduled hours range between 4 hours to 7 hours per day, depending on the assignment. The number of hours per semester differs based on course offerings and demand. Shift days and times may change depending on the Department's need. Occasional evening and/or weekend work and overtime may be required.
