A Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family care on an acute surgical unit. The Surgery Inpatient program at the Royal Alexandra Hospital focuses on serving an inner-city population with pride, compassion, and respect. LPNs work independently and collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care within the surgery program.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will be part of an interprofessional healthcare team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. You will play a key role in providing safe, high-quality, patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program
• Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA)
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP)

Additional Required Qualifications:

• This job is physically demanding, and the incumbent will be required to assist with lifting, turning, and mobilizing patients
• Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and priority setting skills required
• Demonstrated reliability required
• Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
• Basic computer skills are required
• Candidates are required to write a medication calculation exam on interview
• Failure to achieve a passing mark on the exam may impact the decision to hire

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with assessment for signs of delirium and nursing interventions an asset
• Experience with performing CAM assessment and CC behavioral charting/documentation an asset
• Two years of previous orthopedic and surgical experience preferred
• IV, PCA, Epidural, Drains, and Wound Care experience preferred
• Experience with monitoring of Central Lines preferred
