Description:

General Hospital Labs in Powell River, BC is seeking a candidate to perform clerical duties in support of Laboratory Services within a client and family centered care model. Responsibilities include processing test requisitions, entering information into the computer system, explaining requisition information to patients, distributing specimen collection information and containers, answering phones, making appointments, sorting mail, preparing reports, and maintaining records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processes test requisitions and enters information into the computer system
  • Distributes Laboratory Specimen Collection Containers and information
  • Answers phones, responds to inquiries, takes messages, and makes appointments
  • Records tests for billing purposes and sorts mail
  • Prepares and types reports, maintains records
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Qualifications:

  • Grade 12, medical terminology, two years' recent related experience or equivalent
  • Ability to keyboard at 45 w.p.m.
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Physical ability to carry out duties
  • Ability to organize work and operate related equipment
  • Commitment to reconciliation in Canada and Indigenous Cultural Safety
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples
