Description:

Are you a mental health professional experienced in supporting individuals in psychological distress? WorkSafeBC is seeking a Mental Health Specialist to provide interventions to injured workers during their recovery and return to work. This temporary 18-month role involves collaborating with clients, internal staff, and external stakeholders to identify and respond to risk situations, support injured workers and their families during periods of distress, and work with community mental health resources. The role also includes delivering presentations on suicide risk identification and response.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and review WorkSafeBC suicide risk reports, investigate, assess, and prepare Mental Health Service Plans
  • Support vulnerable workers, including those at risk for suicide, and communicate appellate body claims decisions
  • Share experience with colleagues to empower them in managing mental health issues
  • Build partnerships with clients, families, and stakeholders to establish positive relationships
  • Deliver presentations on suicide risk identification and response to staff
  • Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate understanding of current mental health issues and programs related to depression, chronic pain, and suicidality
  • Facilitate understanding, resolve conflict, and provide critical incident support to clients
  • Prepare and present information clearly to individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Work as part of a team to guide clients with physical and mental health conditions
  • Your background and experience should include a master's degree in a related discipline, four years of directly related experience with a master's degree or six years with a bachelor's degree, and registration or eligibility to register with a professional college or regulatory body. A valid B.C. driver's license is required. Before employment, you must meet legal requirements under the Criminal Records Review Act and confirm eligibility to work in Canada.
