Description:

Are you a mental health professional experienced in supporting individuals in psychological distress? WorkSafeBC is seeking a Mental Health Specialist to provide interventions to injured workers during their recovery and return to work. In this role, you will collaborate with clients, internal staff, and external stakeholders to identify and respond to risk situations, offering support to workers and their families during periods of distress. This temporary 18-month assignment provides an opportunity to gain valuable experience within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and review WorkSafeBC suicide risk reports, assess, and prepare Mental Health Service Plans
  • Support vulnerable workers, including those at risk for suicide, and communicate appellate body claims decisions
  • Share expertise with colleagues and claims management staff to manage mental health issues effectively
  • Communicate WorkSafeBC's mandate regarding suicide risk management to clients, families, and stakeholders
  • Build partnerships with at-risk clients, families, internal staff, and stakeholders
  • Deliver presentations on suicide risk identification and response
  • Qualifications:

  • Understanding of current mental health issues and programs related to depression, chronic pain, and suicidality
  • Ability to diffuse hostility, resolve conflict, and provide support to clients
  • Effective communication skills to explain information to diverse audiences
  • Experience working in a team to guide clients towards treatment goals
  • Your background and experience should include a master's degree in a related discipline, four years of related experience with a master's degree, or six years of experience with a bachelor's degree. Registration or eligibility to register with a professional college is required, along with a valid B.C. driver's license.
