Located at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC, this job posting is for a Microbiology Technologist position within the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Pathology and Medical Genetics. The primary responsibility of this role is to perform microbiology laboratory procedures to detect and identify bacteria and clinically significant organisms.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
Graduation from a recognized diploma program in Medical Laboratory Technology.
Completion of microbiology related courses within the last two years or one (1) year recent, related experience within the last six years in the microbiology section of the laboratory, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills And Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
Current knowledge of microbiology laboratory testing, techniques, methods, and procedures.
Knowledge of legislation and government policies related to laboratory technology.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Conflict resolution, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Independence in prioritizing workload and completing assigned tasks.
Operation of related equipment, including computerized information systems.
Ability to demonstrate procedures to other employees and students.
