This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and collaborative Nurse Practitioner (NP) team providing care at the Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH) in the Emergency Department. The NP will play a key role in the ongoing management of handover patients, working closely with the physician for ongoing assessment, monitoring, and management of these patients. The successful ED NP will have a broad background in adult and pediatric presentations, including those with complicated medical needs.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will integrate clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform healthcare systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide a wide variety of assessments, interventions, and treatment services to patients, families, and communities

Receive handover care patients from Emergency Physicians and play a key role in their ongoing management

Work with the multi-disciplinary team to manage EMS off-loaded patients and triaged patients in the department

Initiate or adjust treatment plans as appropriate and facilitate safe transitions of care or discharges

Qualifications:

Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program with a minimum of a Master's degree

Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification

Must be able to support a flexible work schedule and participate in additional education specific to the area of practice

Experience in a wide range of emergency skills and completion of ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ITLS, and NRP certifications preferred

The NP role in the SCH ED is used to promote flow through the department and will also assess patients returning to the ED for follow up as well as the initiation of investigations and treatments for newly triaged patients. The ED NP works closely with the multidisciplinary team to manage EMS offloaded patients and triaged patients that are waiting for a formal care space within the department. This role requires strong multitasking and prioritization skills as well as a strong foundation in understanding emergency department flow. The successful ED NP will have a broad background in adult presentations including those with complicated medical needs and have a comfort level with pediatric presentations.
