Description:

Assisted Living Alberta is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join the Home Living team, providing support services to clients of all ages in their homes. Working in a multidisciplinary team, you will assess client needs, develop care plans, and collaborate with internal and external resources to deliver client-centered services.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will focus on occupational performance to meet individual, group, or community needs. You will engage clients in meaningful occupations, support functional abilities, and promote independence. Your responsibilities will include triage, assessment, treatment, education, and collaboration with stakeholders to enhance client services.

You will work with clients and families to determine rehabilitation goals, participate in interprofessional teams, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Additionally, you may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program

Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science or Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy

Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS HCP)

Ability to work cooperatively in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Demonstrated computer knowledge and proficiency

Ability to work independently in various home environments

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous Continuing Care or Palliative care experience

Experience with Connect Care and RAI HC assessment tool

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills

This position works within a collaborative multidisciplinary team consisting of various healthcare professionals from the nursing and allied health professions. This team collaborates and conducts home or site visits to deliver clientcentered services to individuals with a wide variety of physical, cognitive and mental health conditions, including complex health needs. Using strong assessment and organizational skills, you will identify needs of the client and determine the appropriate internal and external resources required. As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidenceinformed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including selfcare, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, selfmanagement, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. The successful candidate will work independently in clients' homes, which could include congregate settings, single family dwellings, condos and/or walkup apartments. Therefore, the successful candidate must be able to work in different settings and environments (home environments and weather conditions), as well as be able to lift and carry medical bags, which weigh approximately 2530 lbs. At the time of interview, you may be required to demonstrate your computer knowledge and proficiency by completing a handson assessment. You must demonstrate sufficient typing speed to meet workload demand and navigate through various computer programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Visio, Outlook and Internet.
