The successful candidate will provide neonatal care at various hospitals within the Calgary Corridor, including Level IV and III NICUs. Educational opportunities include mentoring residents and fellows, as well as assisting with the Neonatal Transport Service. Fluency in English is required, and additional training in a neonatal area of interest is beneficial.

Position Description:

The Section of Newborn Critical Care, Department of Pediatrics, invites applications for a fulltime Neonatologist located at Peter Lougheed Centre. The successful candidate will have 80% time for clinical activities and 20% allocated to administration, research and education. The nonclinical CARE pillar distribution (total 20%) may be tailored to the profile of the selected candidate. Interest in the areas of neonatal hemodynamics and targeted neonatal echocardiography, nutrition/GI health, respiratory mechanics, artificial intelligence, quality improvement, or with additional skills in Neonatal Neurocritical Care would be beneficial.

Candidates must have completed residency training in Pediatrics and received certification in Pediatrics by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or equivalent and must also have completed Fellowship in NeonatalPerinatal Medicine accredited by the RCPSC or equivalent. In addition, the successful candidate must have completed all the requirements to be eligible for licensure as a neonatologist by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (including successful completion of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons NeonatalPerinatal Medicine Examination or equivalent).

Neonatal Care is provided at five (5) hospitals within the Calgary Corridor. The Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) NICU is a Level IV facility with 14 single family room neonatal beds, and provides surgical, neurocritical, cardiac and complex care services to all Southern Alberta. The ACH NICU has access to an ECLS program based in the ACH PICU. A 24/7 neonatal neurocritical service and full neonatal surgical services are present in the NICU. The Level III Perinatal Critical Care NICU at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) is one of the busiest in Canada providing care to the smallest neonates and those with complex medical needs. There are three Level II NICUs at the Peter Lougheed Hospital, Rockyview General Hospital and South Health Campus. The Neonatal Program includes a nationally recognized Neonatal Followup Clinic (NFC) at the ACH and a RCPSCaccredited NeonatalPerinatal Medicine Residency Program, and AFC programs in NNCC and TNE. A busy transport service (Southern Alberta Neonatal Transport Service) and a Maternal Fetal Medicine consultation service to provide comprehensive care.

The Section of Newborn Critical Care provides neonatal care to Southern Alberta, which has an annual birth rate of approximately 24,000. There are a total of 126 Level II and III beds amongst five (5) Calgary Zone Acute Care Hospitals, admitting an average of 3,000 neonates annually and 2900+ discharges yearly. Additionally, ACH provides patient care to Southern Alberta, SE British Columbia, and SW Saskatchewan, with a catchment area of approximately 2.5 million people.

The Department of Pediatrics has more than 500 clinical and academic faculty members who are part of the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. Many members are also part of the Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute for Child and Maternal Health (ACHRI) or other faculty research institutes. The successful candidate will be providing service at either the FMC level III NICU or ACH Level IV NICU or both. In addition, they will provide service at one of the PLC level 2 NICU. The successful candidate will assist with the Neonatal Transport Service in the Calgary Corridor NICU. Educational training opportunities include mentoring Neonatal Perinatal Medicine Residents and Fellows, Pediatric Residents, and clinical clerks. The service also includes Neonatal Nurse Practitioners to provide support for clinical service and QI collaboration.

Qualifications:
