We are seeking a qualified Personal Care Worker (PCW) to provide ongoing or short-term care for residents in a professional and compassionate manner at our Retirement Residence, The Berkeley. The ideal candidate will be dependable, courteous, and have outstanding communication skills. This part-time position requires availability to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and some statutory holidays.
Responsibilities:
Provide personal care to residents including ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing/undressing
Assist with feeding, preparing snacks, and taking residents to the Dining Room
Perform housekeeping duties such as laundry, dishwashing, bed-making, and floor mopping
Collect specimens and observe residents' conditions under supervision
Provide companionship, communicate changes in residents' conditions, and work with the Health Care Team
Ensure residents' personal hygiene and household items are stocked
Support residents in maintaining an independent lifestyle
Follow health and safety legislation, practice infection control, and use proper sanitation techniques
Practice safety measures to prevent injuries, including proper body mechanics
Requirements:
Experience in Personal Care work with older adults
CCA certification and/or courses in Personal Care
First Aid and CPR certificates
Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage slow times
Empathy for older adults and understanding of aging and cognitive impairment
Positive attitude, relationship-building skills, and problem-solving experience
