Description:

Humber River Health is seeking a Recreational Therapist to join their team at the Reactivation Care Centers. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, designing, implementing, and evaluating individualized and group therapeutic recreational programs. They will also support the development of social skills for patients and provide consultation services with health professionals. This part-time position offers an hourly rate range of $32.99 - $39.75 and requires rotating shifts, including weekends and some holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing, designing, implementing and evaluating individualized and group therapeutic recreational/leisure/life skills programs and special events.
  • Supporting and encouraging the development of functional and acceptable social skills for patients at the ALC Reactivation Care Centers.
  • Providing consultation services with Health professionals when requested.
  • Recording patient assessment, progress, and discharge status in accordance with department and hospital policy.
  • Providing supervision and support to a group volunteer who assists in-patients with various social activities.
  • Developing linkages with community agencies so that patients become more aware of recreational supports once discharged.
  • Qualifications:

  • Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation & Leisure Studies with Therapeutic Recreation focus or University Degree in Human Sciences with a Post Graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of direct experience in working with Inpatients preferred.
  • Experience working with an ALC patient population is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the network of Community services and agencies serving patients in the community (Toronto area).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize a varied workload.
  • Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Availability to work during weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • An understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices is an asset.
