Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing comprehensive patient and family-centered care on an acute surgical unit. The unit, 3G3, caters to Orthopedic, Spine, and General Surgery patients from various sources. The RN will work in a collaborative team environment, utilizing critical thinking and decision-making skills to ensure patient safety and well-being. They will also play a leadership role in promoting integrated patient care and health maintenance.
As an RN, responsibilities include participating in quality improvement initiatives, supporting high-quality patient care strategies, and taking on the role of charge nurse when necessary. Proficiency in medication administration calculations is required, along with excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, organizational, and patient care skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations
Utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making
Teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and families
Support an integrated and holistic approach to patient care and health promotion
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain high-quality patient care strategies
Take on the responsibility of charge nurse as required
Demonstrate excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, organizational, and patient care skills
Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program
Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
Successful completion of required free courses if not practiced as an RN within the last five years
Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
Preference given to candidates with relevant experience in Ortho/Spine Surgery and tracheostomy care
Excellent communication skills, compassionate attitude, and attention to detail
Ability to prioritize complex patient care needs and workload assignments
Demonstrated initiative, reliability, flexibility, and critical thinking
Strong patient teaching skills and ability to maintain collaborative working relationships
