The Foothills Medical Centre Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (FMC NICU) in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to coordinate nursing care for critically ill neonates. Key Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification

Completion of post RN NICU course

Greater than 3 years of recent NICU experience

2 years of Level 3 NICU experience

Critical care experience

NRP Certification

Charge Nurse or Acting Nurse Clinician experience

Post-graduate continuing education on breastfeeding teaching and support

Baccalaureate degree in nursing

Proficiency with Connect Care, BMT system

Education in quality improvement

Education in change management

Critically ill neonates from Southern Alberta receive lifesaving care in the FMC NICU. It is a fast paced and constantly evolving environment that is supported by a large multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be required to coordinate the delivery of nursing care for the sick and critically ill neonate in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Registered Nurse (RN) will participate in family teaching and provide leadership by working cooperatively with the multidisciplinary team in maintaining standards of professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. The Nurse will maintain positive working relationships with parents, families, and coworkers, and be able to independently manage multiple priorities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to succeed in the fastpaced environment of the FMC NICU. The successful candidate will have an active role in facilitating family centered care and preceptorship of new staff and students. To apply for this position, the applicant must be committed to the completion of a detailed level 3 NICU orientation program. The successful applicant agrees to work a fulltime equivalency until completion of the orientation. This includes all didactic and precepted patient care components and generally takes 810 weeks to complete.
