The Grey Nuns Community Hospital is a 363-bed acute care hospital that provides a full range of health services to a diverse and growing urban community in southeast Edmonton. The successful incumbent will be an integral member of the patient care team functioning in the scrub and circulating roles. In conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, the RN contributes to the assessment, planning, and implementation of patient care in the surgical setting. Key Responsibilities:

  • The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response.
  • Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity.
  • The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health.
  • Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required.
  • Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
  • Must have OR experience/training.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both spoken and written.
  • Proven problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent assessment and organizational skills.
  • Computer skills including experience with electronic charting and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. and have the physical ability to push, pull, bend, and stand for prolonged periods of time (more than 30 minutes).
  • Committed to safe, effective, and ethical patient care and work practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly stressful environment.
  • Ability to participate as an effective member of and lead the interprofessional team.
  • Exercises good judgment in decision-making.
  • Perioperative Nursing Certification course or a minimum of three months recent operating room experience within the past three years.
  • Canadian Nursing Association (CNA) Certification in Perioperative Nursing an asset.
  • Two years operating room experience an asset. Priority will be given to RN with a perioperative course.
