Description:

The Unit 4E4 Registered Nurse (RN) position at the Pediatric Medicine Unit involves providing care to pediatric patients up to 18 years of age. The role includes assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for a diverse pediatric population, following hospital policies and procedures. The RN practices to the full scope as defined by CRNA and participates in professional growth opportunities within the Medicine Program at the Stollery Children's Hospital.

Responsibilities of the RN include care coordination, medication administration, clinical documentation, participation in interdisciplinary communication, and contributing to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. The RN must provide safe, evidence-informed, and family-centered care while supporting patient advocacy, education, and collaboration with patients and families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations
  • Utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making
  • Teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families
  • Play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
  • Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Successfully pass the Stollery PEARS course and Medication Administration exam
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability, problem-solving, organizational skills, and effective time management
  • Strong decision-making, assessment, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to adapt and work within a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with children with tracheostomies and medically fragile patient populations
  • Connect Care training and experience
