St. Joseph's Health Centre has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join the critical care team in the Intensive Care Unit. The ICU provides top-notch care in an innovative environment that caters to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of the community. As a member of the team, you will play a crucial role in caring for critically ill patients and supporting their families through challenging times. The ideal candidate will have strong nursing and interpersonal skills, with expertise in critical care. Working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, you will integrate current evidence and best practices into patient care. You will prioritize patient dignity and well-being, involving patients and families in healthcare decisions. Adaptability, flexibility, and a commitment to professional development are essential for this role.

Some key facts about our ICU include a unique design with 17 beds (expandable to 20), a 1:1 or 2:1 nurse-to-patient ratio, and a closed unit led by Intensivists. A Critical Care Response Team operates 24/7, and the interdisciplinary team includes various healthcare professionals. The ICU supports regional programs and treats a variety of conditions, including respiratory issues, shock, renal failure, post-operative care, and emergency admissions.

Qualifications include:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current Critical Care experience required, with a minimum of 2 years of recent Medical/Surgical experience for candidates without recent critical care experience.
  • Critical Care Certificate required, or equivalent education and experience.
  • ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate within an inter-professional team and handle crisis situations.
  • Commitment to continuing education, organization, flexibility, and excellent computer skills.
  • Satisfactory attendance record.
  • As a condition of employment, proof of COVID-19 vaccination or accommodation under the Ontario Human Rights Code is required. External hires must provide proof of vaccination in Ontario QR Code format, while internal candidates must comply with Unity Health Toronto's COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
