Description:

The role of an Occupational Health Nurse involves patient care and administrative responsibilities. The nurse will interpret client needs, provide clinical support, counsel clients on health and wellness, and contribute to policy development. Responsibilities include ensuring confidentiality of health information, implementing health and safety programs, and promoting workplace health initiatives.

As a Registered Nurse, you will deliver nursing services to patients, families, and communities, ensuring their safety and well-being. You will use critical thinking and decision-making skills to provide patient-centered care, health promotion, and advocacy. The position supports an integrated approach to patient care and reflects the values of AHS.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical support, advice, and direction to staff and managers on health promotion, safety, and hygiene
  • Act as a healthcare provider for staff and representatives
  • Ensure confidentiality of health information
  • Implement program and policy strategies for workplace health and safety
  • Promote WHS programs and priorities
  • Deliver programs and services to meet staff needs, including Occupational Immunizations and Health Assessments
  • Manage needle stick and blood/body fluid exposure follow-up
  • Conduct communicable disease exposure follow-up and investigation
  • Provide WCB Case Management and Employee/Family Assistance Program awareness
  • Participate in Noise Management Program, Hazard assessment, and control
  • Conduct Skin integrity/Hand Health investigations, Respiratory fit testing, and Ergonomic reviews
  • Measure and monitor outcomes of WHS programs
  • Consult and refer to appropriate stakeholders and specialists
  • Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program
  • Active or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider certification
  • Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Nursing Diploma and/or Bachelor's Degree with RN designation
  • Occupational Health Nursing Post Diploma/Degree Certificate
  • Audiometric Technician Training
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in Occupational Health Nursing
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Occupational Health Nursing in a large organization
  • Preference for candidates Certified in Occupational Health Nursing Canada (COHN(C))
  • Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered
