This program is designed for recent Registered Nurse graduates who are eager to launch their nursing careers. You will have the opportunity to grow into your role with the support of experienced peers who will guide you every step of the way. The program is 12 months in duration and structured into two phases to help you build your skills, competence, and confidence in a safe and supportive environment.

Phase 1 - Enhanced Orientation: During this phase, you will be in supernumerary and paired with a Clinical Guide to develop and complete a personalized learning plan. The duration of this phase is flexible based on your individual learning needs.

Phase 2 - Independent Practice with Support: After successfully completing Phase 1, you will transition to independent practice while having access to an assigned mentor for ongoing support throughout the remaining 12 months of the program. You will also be required to apply for available vacant positions within a similar practice setting.

As a Registered Nurse, you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations while ensuring their safety and well-being. You will utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care. You will also play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification

Eligibility for Graduate Nurses, Graduate Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Nurses, and Registered Psychiatric Nurses who have graduated within 12 months prior to the anticipated start date of the program

Candidates selected for an interview must review the UNA Letter of Understanding #29 - Graduate Nurse Transition Pilot Program prior to the interview

In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is nonpensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
