Properly mix lab compounds, which includes proper weights, mixing process, preparation & storage
Properly prepare test samples (ribbons, plaques, buttons, etc.) for testing
Measure Rheology properties of compound prepared in Lab or mixing plant
Assists in training of new lab employees and Lab Technicians with new test procedures, setups, etc
Works with a limited degree of supervision within established laboratory procedures and practices
Performs mechanical testing on a variety of product types or components involving programming and running test lab equipment while following written procedures, methods, and/or instructions
Conducts tests, maintains records of work performed, verify data, summarizes and reports results
Develops and coordinates in building lab test fixtures
Assists in preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of lab test equipment
Assists in ensuring the availability of adequate supplies and equipment
Frequent interface with other personnel outside of the lab department (Engineering, Quality, etc.)
Provides support in Quality Audits, Customer Complaints, and Failure Analysis
Must operate in a manner that reinforces, supports, and is consistent with the Cooper Standard Leadership Model
Ensures 6S, housekeeping and health and safety standards are maintained
Supports chemists/material engineers as required for innovation and material development activities
May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description
Education and Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Two Year College Degree or applicable Technical Training and Certification
Five to eight years of relevant work experience
Experience in mixing of rubber is preferred
Strong mechanical aptitude, as well as technical and analytical problem-solving skills
Skills or working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems
Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with others in a team environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Good verbal, written communication skills and Organizational skills
Knowledge of standard control systems utilized in Laboratory Testing and Material Testing Equipment preferred
Understanding of Material Failure modes, Gage R&R, and Capability Studies a plus
Ability to lift up to thirty pounds on a regular basis
Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary
Proficient in the English language -- written, spoken, reading
