High degree of motivation and organizational skills

Ability to work independently and under supervision

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions

Completion of Service Worker Hemodialysis Training

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience transporting patients in a healthcare setting

The Service Worker I is an exciting role within the multidisciplinary team for the Alberta Kidney Care  North (AKCN). Under the direction of the nursing staff, the Service Worker contributes to safe patient care and the efficiency of the Unit. The Service Worker provides assistance in setting up, rinsing, dismantling and the maintenance of the hemodialysis machines under the supervision of a nurse. The Service Worker maintains, cleans and handles hospital equipment pertaining to the Unit, as well as keeps supplies and linens ordered, stocked, and organized. This position is located at the Slave Lake Satellite Hemodialysis Unit. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, Alberta Health Services currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is nonpensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

The AKC N program requires candidates to complete/pass Service Worker Hemodialysis Training. Candidate must be able to attend training following a successful interview. Hemodialysis Training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer with a Clinical Nurse Educator depending on classroom/instructor availability. Hemodialysis Training is an intensive 1week schedule consisting of two parts; Classroom Training followed by an exam. A passing mark of 75% is required to move onto Buddy Shifts. Buddy Shifts are scheduled by the Unit Manager (2 weeks). A satisfactory performance is required during Buddy Shifts to be considered a pass.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous training and/ or experience transporting patients in a health care institution is an asset. Supply chain management experience is an asset.
